There is much written about love
But they say that those
Who are victims of the mortal folly
Merely exaggerate their praises
And their supposed affection.
Must I be expected
To believe in the purity
Of something that deserves
Nothing but a reproof valiant?

There is much sung about love
But they cherish the music
And remember the tunes better
Than the words of endearment
Enveloped in its melodies.
Must I be expected to sway
To the magic of a harmony
Whose lyrics go ignored?

There is much portrayed about love
But how must I believe
In its power and fervor
When two strangers are able
To convince me of a passion
That exists not between them?
